What is the Forest Stewardship Council?

A Global Brand Promoting Responsible Forest Management

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation based in Bonn, Germany, which was established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.

This means that forest owners and managers manage their forests the FSC way within a strong certification framework that ensures that forests are being managed in a responsible way. This ensures long-term timber supplies whilst protecting the forest environment and the rights of indigenous people who depend upon the forest as well as forest workers’ rights.

FSC certified wood and wood fibre products are tracked from forest floor to shop shelves and only products with a chain of custody certificate are able to display the well-recognised FSC Logo.  The FSC logo is the tree and tick mark that is seen on a wide range of products from toilet tissue to garden furniture as well as office paper and books.

You can help protect forests around the world when you buy FSC certified products carrying the logo.  Consumer demand encourages forest managers and owners to become FSC-certified meaning that more forest areas are responsibly managed.

FSC is supported by all of the main environmental organisations including WWF and Greenpeace and all certification is independently carried out and audited.
