Registration is now open for the Consultative Forum to formally comment on the revised draft of the Irish national FSC forest management standard. There will be a 100-day public consultation period on the draft national standard, which will take place from 10th August 2009 until 20th November 2009.
FSC Ireland hosted a public consultation day to gather views on the new Draft Irish Standard for Forest Management Certification, which was launched recently. The new Standard sets out measures to ensure the responsible management of certified forests in Ireland, and comments are sought from all interested parties. There was information about FSC International and FSC Ireland, in relation to what can be gained from sustainable forestry, as well as details of the new Draft Irish Standard. Members of FSC Ireland representing environmental, economic and social interests were present. A brief formal presentation was followed by an open plenary discussion on the new Draft irish Standard, where views and feedback were noted.
Feedback on the Draft Standard can also be made in writing (or electronically). A new slideshow presentation is available which introduces FSC and explains how and why the Draft Standard was developed.

FSC Ireland is looking for feedback from all interested parties on a new Draft Irish Standard for Forest Management Certification. This Standard has been developed following negotiations between representatives of social, environmental and economic interests, and sets out measures to ensure the responsible management of certified forests in Ireland.
This Standard interprets the core set of the international Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Principles and Criteria to describe how forests have to be managed within Ireland to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.
The Draft Standard will be revised in the light of feedback from public consultation, before approval from the Forest Stewardship Council is sought.
Comments should be submitted before 20th November 2009, and can be made by email to consultation[at]irishforestcertification[dot]com or in writing to:
