Certified Timber Procurement

Many Irish timber importers don't yet supply FSC-certified timber. It is consumer demand that will help change this situation. Some of the shops which do supply FSC-certified timber include B&Q (PDF file) and Homebase . However, there may be other suppliers of certified timber in Ireland. To be certain that timber is certified ask for the FSC Chain of Custody certificate number which can then be checked against the FSC database. A certificate number will have the form of XXX-COC-XXXXX

We in Europe can ensure that we are not contributing to deforestation in other countries, or to destruction of livelihoods and services the environment provides for local people, such as clean water, by not buying illegally logged timber. FSC certification is independent verification that the source of our tropical timber is legal and responsibly managed.

The FSC Trademark identifies forests which have been certified in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council. By buying products with an FSC label, you are supporting the growth of responsible forest management worldwide.

Check the FSC International products database here. You can specify the product, the country, or other fields in the database.

To find sawmills which hold current Chain of Custody (CoC) certificates, search on the FSC database, specifying the country and selecting COC
