Chain of Custody Certification

What is a Chain of Custody?

The FSC Chain of Custody is a guarantee to consumers that any product carrying the FSC label can be tracked back to an FSC certified source.

The Chain of Custody tracks products from a forest that has been responsibly managed to shop shelves, with measures in place at each step to ensure the integrity of the FSC label.

Products carrying the FSC label include: paper, raw and treated timber, wood flooring, doors, decking, garden furniture and guitars. There are also a growing number of non-timber products like essential oils, footballs, maple syrup and even chewing gum.

Whether you are buying or selling products, just look for the FSC trademark or the chain of custody certification number. The number appears on all product invoices and appears as XX-COC-XXXX, where XX, XXXX represents the initials of the certifying body and the certificate holder's unique certificate number respectively.

Who needs Chain of Custody Certification?

Anyone who takes ownership of timber or timber products that have originated in an FSC certified forest needs Chain of Custody certification.
